How to Prep Your Toyota For Spring

How to Prep Your Toyota For Spring

Winter’s end is drawing near. For months, we have spent out time indoors and sheltered from the cold, enjoying the company of our loved ones to be sure, but longing to get outside, and get going. But not so fast; there are some important checks and balances to complete before you get out and hit the road, especially if your Toyota truck, car or SUV has been spending much of its time outdoors through the winter months.

Tire Check

As is the case when transitioning from fall to winter, making sure you have the correct tires on – and said tires are in a proper state – before heading out is crucial. While winter tires are imperative for snowy, slippery conditions, they don’t provide as much traction as all-season tires on drier roads and they tend to have a negative effect on fuel economy. Not to mention they may have picked up stray objects lodged in the snow or ice melt through the winter months. It’s time to consider switching to all-season or summer tires – you won’t regret it.

Fluids and wipers

Throughout the winter, snow, rain, sleet, salt residue and grime from road spray are constant, meaning you’re spending a lot of time using your wipers and windshield washing fluid. You may be running low on the latter and noticing some wear-and-tear on the former (watch for unsightly streaks as your wipers sweep across the windshield or some missed spots due to blade warping or damage), so it’s time to ensure all of that is brought up to speed.

You’ll also want to ensure your antifreeze levels are up to snuff as you begin to transition from heating your car to operating your air conditioning unit.

Battery check

During cold winter months, your battery works overtime, and that could lead to drainage. Have an expert check your battery’s charge (or if you have a battery tester, use it) to ensure you won’t be left stranded.

Freshen Up

Not only does all the grime accumulated during winter look bad, it can cause corrosion both on your car’s body and its undercarriage, even in today’s modern cars. Give your car a thorough wash to make sure you uncover any issues hidden by winter before they worsen.
