What’s New on the 2027 Toyota Crown

The Toyota Crown has always been a bit of an outlier. It sits higher than a regular sedan, wears a coupe-style roofline, and comes only as a hybrid with all-wheel drive on every grade. For the 2027 model year, Toyota kept that formula and worked on the details around it.

The updates touch the powertrain in the Limited grade, the sheet metal across the lineup and the standard equipment list at the top of the range. The 2027 Toyota Crown is scheduled to go on sale at Toyota dealerships across Canada in fall 2026. Here is a look at what changed.

A Refreshed Look From Front to Back

The clearest visual change is at the rear. A newly sculpted rear bumper reshapes the back of the car, and premium glossy black accents appear across the lineup. The Hybrid Electric Vehicle and All-Wheel Drive badging moved to a satin finish, which reads quieter than the bright badging it replaces.

Paint gets a new option too. Inked, a black colour, joins Oxygen White, Bronze Age, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red and Storm Cloud. The Platinum grade adds two more visual touches as standard for 2027: red brake calipers and a black belt window surround.

The Limited Grade Gets a New Hybrid System

The Limited grade moves to the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System, or THS 5. It uses a 2.5-litre gas engine and two motor-generators working through a continuously variable transmission, with a combined fuel consumption rating of 5.8 L/100 km. An electronically controlled brake system coordinates regenerative and hydraulic braking to pull back electrical energy under deceleration.

Paddle shifters are also new on the Limited for 2027, giving the driver manual control over ratios from behind the steering wheel. Power reaches the road through Electronic On-Demand AWD, which uses a separate rear-mounted electric motor to drive the rear wheels when traction calls for it.

Hybrid MAX Carries the Platinum Grade

The Platinum grade keeps the Hybrid MAX powertrain. A 2.4-litre turbocharged engine works with a direct-shift six-speed automatic transmission for 340 net combined horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, with a 7.8 L/100 km combined fuel consumption rating.

This grade uses Full-Time Electronic AWD with an eAxle, constantly moving power between the front and rear wheels. Adaptive Variable Suspension is standard, tuned around the turbo hybrid powertrain to balance steering response, stability and ride comfort. Electronically controlled braking with Active Cornering Assist helps reduce understeer in certain corners.

Drive Modes and Suspension Tuning

Both grades let the driver change the character of the car with a button. The Limited offers four modes, and the Platinum adds a fifth that focuses on rear-seat comfort.

• NORMAL: balances fuel economy and acceleration
• ECO: moderates power delivery in response to pedal input
• SPORT: sharpens throttle response and dynamic performance
• CUSTOM: allows separate steering and powertrain settings
• REAR COMFORT (Platinum only): adjusts Adaptive Variable Suspension damping for rear passengers

Underneath, the Crown uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear setup. The Limited grade adds swing valve shock absorbers.

Inside the Cabin

Standard cabin equipment carries over in strength across both grades. Every 2027 Crown includes leather-trimmed seating, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates and dual Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Comfort features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a Qi wireless charger and USB-C ports around the cabin. Both grades come with a fixed panoramic moonroof, a Panoramic View Monitor and an 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio system with a rear subwoofer and 8-channel amplifier. Platinum adds a Head-Up Display and a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on both grades.
