Toyota electrified vehicle sales reach new heights in 2021

Toyota has an extensive lineup of new hybrid vehicles, a lineup that includes a wide range of models for every need including the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, the hybrid-only Toyota Venza, the Toyota Sienna minivan, and of course the Toyota Prius. This wide range of hybrid options paired with Toyota's reputation for quality and safety as well as reliability and resale value has allowed Toyota electrified vehicles to once again shine on the market this year.

Toyota electrified vehicle sales reached 55,886 units in 2021, an impressive increase of 84.4% compared to 2020 sales numbers. Highlights of Toyota's impressive electrified vehicle sales numbers last year included the Toyota Corolla Hybrid with 4,522 units sold, an increase of 82.9%. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid, with 5,271 units, increased its sales by 35.1%.

Overall Toyota sales were up by 17.7% this year, an increase that comes despite the challenges faced by the entire automotive industry this year. Total Toyota sales reach 225,215 units sold.

“On behalf of Toyota Canada, I’d like to thank our customers for their continued confidence and trust in Toyota and Lexus,” said Larry Hutchinson, President and CEO of Toyota Canada Inc. “I’d also like to thank our Canadian dealers and their dealership staff for their exceptional effort and focus on meeting the needs of our customers in 2021.”

Toyota should continue on its record-setting pace in 2022, especially given the introduction of multiple new electrified vehicles including the all-new Toyota bZ4X, and the arrival of the Toyota Tundra Hybrid.
