Toyota announces new all-electric SUV in development

Toyota pioneered the hybrid vehicle segment in Canada over 20 years ago, and now the Japanese automaker is turning its attention to all-electric vehicles. By joining forces with Subaru, Toyota plans to develop a BEV-dedicated platform for mid-sized and large passenger vehicles, in essence leading the way to a lineup that includes a full-size all-electric SUV.

This isn’t the first time that Subaru and Toyota have combined their expertise and knowledge, but this is certainly their most ambitious project. The two Japanese automakers announced an upcoming C-Segment BEV SUV would be the first model to come out of the partnership.

The partnership with Subaru originated in 2005 and involves not only technological developments, but also sales and production knowledge sharing. Models such as the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ which launched in 2012 are just two examples of cars that have come out of this partnership.

By combining their forces, Toyota and Subaru hope to dramatically reduce both costs and delays and will quickly provide the Canadian consumer with another electrified vehicle option that should exceed expectations.
